Tankless Water Heater Installation in Alhambra, CA

Switching an Alhambra home from a tank to a tankless heater is rarely a straight swap. The unit needs far more gas than the tank it replaces, it vents differently, and in an older house the existing gas line and flue were never sized for it. We survey all three before quoting, so the number you are given is the number you pay.

What you get at the end is unlimited hot water, a reclaimed closet or garage corner, and a unit that typically lasts about twice as long as the tank it replaced.

Gas sizing is the first thing we check. A tank heater might draw 40,000 BTU; a whole-house tankless commonly needs 150,000 to 199,000. In this city's older homes that often means upsizing the branch line, and occasionally the meter — which we would much rather find on the survey than halfway through an installation.

Venting is the second. A condensing tankless vents through sealed PVC or polypropylene and produces acidic condensate that needs a drain and, in most cases, neutralization. A non-condensing unit needs stainless category III venting. The old galvanized flue that served the tank cannot be reused for either, and where the vent can legally terminate is usually what decides where the unit ends up on the wall.

Sizing the unit itself comes down to how many fixtures run at once and how cold the incoming water gets in winter. We calculate the flow rate you actually need rather than defaulting to the largest model, because an oversized unit costs more up front and short-cycles at low draws.
